Prof. Aleksander Stępkowski

Faculty of Law and Administration, University of Warsaw

Holds a post-doctoral degree in legal sciences and is University of Warsaw Professor at the Faculty of Law and Administration. He is a researcher in private and public comparative law and political and legal thought (including Polish republican tradition), especially in the determining impact the philosophy has on the shape of legal institutions.


As director of the Ordo Iuris Institute for Legal Culture he actively supported the protection of human rights at the forum of the European Court of Human Rights, the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child, and the European Committee of Social Rights.


He was a fellow of the Foundation for Polish Science (2000 and 2001), the University of Manchester (1999), the University of Oxford (2002), and Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (2003).


Ministry of Foreign Affairs undersecretary of state in charge of legal and treaty issues and human rights (26.11.2015 - 30.08.2016).
